Light Art Practice
By Holly Madden
Connecting to light physically can be an uplifting, healing and spiritual experience. God separated the light from the darkness on the first day, and yet God did not create the sun, moon and starts till the fourth day. While this can inspire some deep theological processing and research, sit with the incredibly powerful and moving connection we have to light. Our planet centers around our sun which is our most significant light source (only the stars provide some minimal light for our planet), and yet the sun and stars were not created until after there was a separation between light and dark.
This practice centers into the healing properties of light. Sunlight boosts our mood, provides warmth, gives us energy, and heals our bodies and minds. This practice helps ground our perspective.
Trauma Training Takeaways: Art is a powerful form of expression, and in the outlet of expressing emotion or storytelling, healing can occur. Engaging in healing work, no matter the form, can bring up trauma and triggers. This requires sensitivity, compassion, and gentleness, whether it’s with yourself or with someone you are engaging with and caring for. Pursuing help and support from a licensed practitioner should always be encouraged and supported.
