Resource Compiled by Christie Love and Holly Madden

At the heart of the Flipped Table Collective's mission is the drive to transform faith communities into spaces of healing, not harm. We do this by fostering trauma awareness, understanding, and practices, a commitment that underpins all our efforts.

We recognize that in many of our resources, videos, and workshops we use many trauma terms that some members may not be familiar with. For this reason, our team has compiled a list of commonly used terms that you may experience as you engage with Flipped Table Collective resources.

Most definitions in this glossary have been sourced from research, trusted sources, and professional organizations, each is cited and includes links to the primary source so that you can explore additional information about the concept.

This glossary will be updated when new terms are identified that need to be added for clarity and the continued evolution of research and training.

Trauma Training Takeaway: Diving into the world of trauma awareness and trauma-informed practices can feel like learning a new language that draws from elements of social work, psychology, neurobiology, medical, and legal fields. To reduce barriers to engagement with training and understanding, we have created this resource to help you learn what different terms and phrases mean to improve your experience when engaging with Flipped Table and other trauma information resources.

If there is a term that you encounter, that is not in our glossary, and you would like to see it added, please reach out to us at support@flippedtablecollective.com
