Ideas for Connecting to Local Schools
By Holly Madden
This document provides some creative ways on connecting to your local neighborhood school to provide support and community for families in your neighborhood and for the teachers and administrators who provide so much support.
Trauma Training Takeaway: Especially in highly religious communities, many churches connect to schools in faith-based ways, inviting families to church or to church events. Even good-intentioned invitations can feel traumatic to families who are struggling with meeting basic needs or going through their own crisis, or to teachers/administrators who see the needs all the time and grieve the lack of community around these families. Coming into the school and working with the school to meet practical needs not only helps to mitigate trauma impact but builds important connections between students, families, and school workers with your faith community.
