Call to Worship: The Call to Love
Written by Rev. Dr. Christie Love
When Jesus was on earth, he taught those who followed his ways, “The world will know you are my disciples if you have love for others.”
May we be known by our love.
Our world is full of division, trauma, conflict, and anxiety- Love is greatly needed. Love is need to be the root of truth and advocacy. Love is needed to stand in solidarity with the suffering. Love is needed to meet the needs of our neighbors. Love is needed to help us find common ground once again.
May we be known by our love.
Love is patient and kind. Love cares for others more than ourselves. Love is not greedy or proud. Love puts others ahead of ourselves. Love is not angry, does not keep score, and does not seek revenge. Love trusts in God and always looks for the best in others. Love does not give up even when things are hard.
May we be known by our love.
God’s call to love is high. We are called to love our enemies and to pray for those who hurt us and who hurt those we love. We are called to love the stranger whose name and story we do not yet know. We are called to love the least of these with compassion and mercy. We are called to love in action and in our words.
May we be known by our love.
Prayer:
Loving God, Lead us to love you with our heart, soul, and mind. Guide us to love our neighbors as ourselves. May our love shine a ray of hope into our dark and divided world. Amen.
