Phoenix Acres: A Best Practice Proposal
Similar to our best practice example of Roots of Community, Phoenix Acres was a deeply researched proposal to create a family transitional housing community, specifically to support the reunification of families in the foster care system and provide wrap-around support. This project was never created in our context in Springfield, MO but we believe that this model could work in many communities to help support families stabilize and thrive after foster care system involvement.
If you are interested in exploring a project similar to this one, please reach out to Flipped Table Collective Co-Founder Holly Madden and we will be happy to help you adapt these plans to your community of context.
Trauma Training Takeaway: Creating safe spaces for families to reunify after involvement in the foster care system or to give families facing a housing crisis can be able to stay together while they get back onto their feet are both trauma-informed outreach efforts to support stressed family units in your community. This model was designed to help families create supportive community for another, to provide parental support in a wide variety of ways, and offer therapy and counseling services to parents and children.
